Filming update: London done!!

On the 21st of January Team Go For Gold went to London to the main section of filming. We managed to find a boy to play the other main role which was great because finding a suitable boy was an issue for our team for quite a long time but once we sorted everything out filming went well apart from one problem. We encountered a problem at Bexleyheath train station. As we were filming the scene on the platform we were approached by station staff asking if we had permission to be filming. We resolved the problem by explaining that we were filming for educational purposes and that they should contact the school to clarify.

After that minor incident we went ahead to London and following the filming schedule we were able to go to all the locations and film varieties of different shots before sun down. Travelling around London was quite nerving as we had the camera out and was trying to get everything down before it got dark but we managed time well and was able to get to Trafalgar Square, the last location, and it was still day light.

London Calling

In two days Team Go For Gold are going to travel to London to do the main part of our filming. We have experienced some problems with the filming. The main issue was we have been able to find a suitable boy to be in the video. This was a big issue as the boy was supposed to be the the other main character but luckily we have found a reliable person to film and we are very grateful that he is giving up his time to help us. Another issue that is slightly worrying is that recently a school camera was broken in a accident and as we are going to London accidents may happen because it can be busy etc. But by using the risk assessment we are confident that everything and everyone will come back in one peace.

Band T-shirt research

Still unsure about the second ancillary task I have been conducting research into t-shirts. If I design a t-shirt it will be advertising the Only by the Night tour. These t-shirts are usually sold outside venues after the show of a band. As I attend gigs regularly i have a few band t-shirts of my own and the conventions of the t-shirts are very similar. The most common one being the dates of the tour on the back and perhaps an image of the band or an album cover on the front and I plan to
incorporate these conventions into the version I will create.

I looked at a range of different t-shirts on the web. Here are some examples

Following the research into band t-shirts I have decided to focus my poster on tour dates as this is an important conventional aspect of a band. I will incorporate a similar idea on the tour date poster as I will on the back of the band tour date t-shirt if I decide to create one :)

Video Conventions

As part of further research I decided to look at exisitng videos to see what conventions would make our video look more conventional. As Kings Of Leon fall under indie/alternative rock i decided to look at some videos of the same genre on youtube.
This is one of the videos I looked at by One Night Only called "Say You Don't Want It" This video was shot in New York City which is a busy city which is like London. The band shots establish the location. The band shots were quick cuts and mid shots which I think is an important element to use as the audience focus should be on the narrative of the video. The front man in the band is also the main focus in the video. This was something that we had to contemplate as we had great difficulty finding a boy who was avalible to shoot for us so we was going to use on the boys from the band we used for video.

Team Go For Gold are heading to London...

We have officially set a date for the much anticipated filming in London. We are slightly concerned about risks imposed of filming in such as busy area. For example if plan on going to busy train stations such Charing Cross and London Bridge we may have to ask permission from station managers.

We have planned to go to London on the 21st of January to hopefully get the majority of the London footage done.

I created a risk assessment for our trip to London highlighting the risks that would be imposed when we are filming in London and what we would do to reduce them and lower the risks.

sorting through footage...

Recently we've starting sorting through all the filming we've done so far. From the first lot of filming we done back in October which was for the first few seconds of the video which consisted of the main character (Kate) getting out of bed and getting ready andwalking down the road then onto the bustop scene which was Kate waiting at the stop then getting onto the bus to the footage from the studio. As we've got quite a large amount already we've had to save the footage over a number of usb's and transfer them onto the editing machines which is tedious and takes a lot of patience. The footage managed to over capacitate my usb meaning i had to delete some other things off it D;

After the transferral of footage we attempted to put some of it together on the editing machine. Nothing official but just seeing what we had and how well it went together. I feel that the process can be difficult because voicing an opinion can be hard as we all have so many ideas but so far its worked out well and we are experiencing how difficult it can be putting footage together because of the amount of different shots and seeing how well one follows on from the other but through hard work, diligence and determination I feel that this will not be a problem as Team Go For Gold are all about hard work, persistancy and determination :D

photography for the ancillary products :D

On the 23rd of December we continued on with filming and we started getting some studio shots The filming mainly consisted of getting shots of the guitars and drum being played as this is something that  is a really important part of our video. We recreated Kings Of Leon with some musicians and recorded a cover of the song we are doing, Use Somebody.

We also took photos for the ancillary products. These are some examples of the photos that I shall be including on my poster and gig ticket.
I feel that the filming and taking photos was a lot more successful than the "green screen disaster" as they were very co-operative and even shared some ideas with us to help us cover all the conventions of an indie band which really helped us a lot. We got everything we needed and we are now able to edit some footage and create our ancillary products as these pictures were urgently needed.
This photo is one of my favourite photos because its a close focusing on the front man who does the singing which is an important convention of an indie Rock video and its also my favourite photo because they have the same make of guitar in very similar models which was fate. Caleb Followill (the front man of Kings Of Leon) plays Gibson's and the models are essentially the same. i found this link on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3fI7vJgQZE from 1.48 you can see the actual guitar he plays which is very similar to the one which will be included in our video.

Ancillary products commenced!!!

As a part of my research I have been researching typical things that are related to indie rock bands. To start with I have been looking at existing gig tickets to get an idea of some conventions. Later I will start to look at the layout of posters to see the presentation of existing posters.
